The Hope College women's basketball team made the most of its second chances this week.
The 11th-ranked Flying Dutch avenged two of their three losses this season in four days, capping a satisfying stretch Saturday with a convincing 89-58 victory against nationally ranked and MIAA champion Trine University at DeVos Fieldhouse. The Thunder won the first meeting, 67-61, at home on Jan. 7, and had won 17 games in a row this season.
On Wednesday, Hope defeated visiting Albion College, 80-44, after losing, 60-54, in overtime on the road on Jan. 28.
The Flying Dutch (22-3, 14-2 MIAA) could face both teams again next week as the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament.
Hope will play in the Friday, Feb. 27, 5:30 p.m., semifinal at top-seeded Trine, awaiting the winner of the Wednesday, Feb. 25, quarterfinal between third-seeded Albion and sixth-seeded Kalamazoo College. Trine will play either fourth-seeded Calvin University or fifth-seeded Alma College in the other semifinal.

The 13 3-pointers finished one shy of a season high.
Senior forward Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan/South Christian) scored a game-high 17 points while sinking a season-high five 3-pointers in seven attempts. Vis moved within 21 points of 1,000 for her career.
