Buffalo State Falls to Geneseo, 75-45, Smiley Scores 1,000th Point

BUFFALO, NY—Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) netted her 1,000th career point, but her senior day was spoiled by Geneseo (16-6/10-5) who claimed a 75-45 victory over host Buffalo State (18-5/13-3) in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.

Smiley, who reached the milestone in just three seasons at Buffalo State after transferring from Medaille, finished with six points and six rebounds.  Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) led Buffalo State with 11 points, and Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Geneseo jumped out to a 13-2 lead and pushed the advantage to as many as 19 before taking a 35-18 advantage into the intermission.  Buffalo State shot just 17-percent in the opening 20 minutes.  The Bengals turned up the press early in the second half and quickly cut the deficit to nine at 40-31, but Geneseo settled in and pulled away for the convincing win. 

Buffalo state shot just 21-percent from the field for the game and was 2 for 17 (12-percent) from 3-point range.  Geneseo shot 40-percent and was 7 of 14 from beyond the arc. 

Buffalo State will close out the regular season next Friday and Saturday at Potsdam and Plattsburgh respectively.
