William Paterson Men’s Basketball Suffers Loss to Visiting Rowan

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (2-5, 0-3 NJAC) suffered an 86-61 loss to visiting Rowan (5-3, 1-2 NJAC) Dec. 2.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers owned an early 10-5 advantage (16:33) behind a pair of three-pointers by junior guard Neftali Valentin before the Profs responded with a 14-0 run during the next five minutes (19-10, 11:41). WP made it a four-point game (29-25) at the 5:02 mark, but Rowan was able to build a 37-29 edge by halftime.
  • A 12-2 burst allowed the Profs to take control and extend their lead to 65-47 with 8:08 to play.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Valentin paced the Pioneers with 13 points, his 21st career double-digit scoring total.
  • Senior guard Shawn Summers Jr. contributed 12 tallies, eight rebounds and three assists, while senior guard Tyreek Montgomery added 10 points, six boards and three assists.
