Saxons glide by Summit University

DALLAS, PA—Alfred University's men's hoops team (2-1, E8 0-0) dominated Summit University of Pennsylvania 86-43 behind sophomore Nick Schmidt's (Olean, NY/Olean) 18 points.
 
The Saxons grabbed the lead only four minutes into the game and refused to let go, offensively battering the Defenders of Summit University. Junior Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) finished with 13 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Dalton Cousin(Sherill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) posted a career-high in both points (10) and rebounds (five). 
 
AU handled the Defenders by overshadowing them in points of turnovers (22-5), second chance points (16-6), bench points (60-6), points in the paint (40-12), and fast break points (14-2). 
 
In the first half the Saxons set a foundation, earning a 42-25 lead heading into the intermission.  With the stage set, AU was able to jump out a massive lead early in the second half 60-33.  With a surmountable lead in hand, the Saxons were able to glide to their second win of the young season.
 
AU shot 31-of-74 (41.9%) from the field while holding Summit to 11-of-44 (25.0%) shooting.  The Saxons hit eight three-pointers in the game, with Schmidt putting in four.
 
The Saxons now look ahead to Tuesday when they travel to Keuka Park, NY to take on Keuka College at 6PM.
