Pacers Hold Off Ravens

More news about: Rosemont

SCRANTON, Pa. - In a game that featured 10 ties and eight lead changes the host Marywood Pacers were able to fend off the visiting Rosemont Ravens men's basketball team in a key CSAC game tonight by a final score of 63-59. The Ravens dropped to 11-8 (7-5 CSAC) and the Pacers moved to 7-11 (6-5 CSAC) with the result.

In a tightly played first half, neither team could break free from the other with each team having at most a five-point lead. Marywood led 7-2 with 17:37 left and the Ravens last led by five, 21-16 with 2:36 left before the break. The Pacers outscored the Ravens 5-0 in the waning minutes of the half to forge a 21-21 tie at halftime.

The Ravens had the lead, albeit a small one (33-32), with 11:40 left in the game. Over the next 6:45 though, Marywood outscored the Ravens 20-10 to take a 52-43 lead with 4:57 left. With Rosemont trailing 56-47 and 3:33 left, the Ravens put together a stretch where they outscored the Pacers 12-5 to get the deficit back down to only two points, 61-59, thanks in part to two three-point buckets by Justin Chaney (Jr./Williamstown, NJ). But by the time the Ravens got to that point, they fouled the Pacers' Ryan Corrigan who sank his two free throws to put the game away with one second left in the game.

The Pacers were able shoot accurately from downtown, sinking six of 12 shots, accounting for 18 of their points.

Chaney led the Ravens with 18 points. Tremell Green (Jr./BOK/Philadelphia) and DeAndre Jordan (Jr./Henry E. Lackey/Marbury, Md.) each scored 10 for the visitors.

For Marywood, Ryan Corrigan led all scorers with 19 points. Matt Lepri added 15 points. Brent Keyes scored 11 and Pierre Bakinde tallied 10.

The Ravens play another key CSAC road game on Saturday, 1/28, when they play the Neumann Knights. The game is scheduled for a 4:00pm tip-off.
