Ravens Cap Exciting Comeback With OT Win

More news about: Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. - Trailing by as many as 16 points with 13:26 left in the game, the Ravens were able to extend their game into overtime and ultimately defeat the visiting Immaculata University Mighty Macs this evening by a final score of 64-61.

Late clutch shooting and taking advantage of their opponents woes at the charity stripe enabled Rosemont to complete their sparkling comeback. The win placed the Raven's overall record at 2-3 (1-2 CSAC) while the Mighty Macs fell to 2-4 (1-2 CSAC).

After opening up with a trey by sophomore Kevin Fenstermaker (Warminster, Pa.), the Mighty Macs scored three consecutive three-pointers of their own, and it appeared that Immaculata was on their way to controlling this contest. The Ravens trailed by 13 points in the half, 24-11, with 9:13 left, and the team could make little inroads into the Immaculata advantage as the half ended with Rosemont trailing 39-30.

It didn't look good for the home side to start the second stanza as Immaculata opened up with a 5-0 run to take a 44-30 lead. The Ravens still looked off-kilter as Immaculata extended their lead to 16 points, 50-34 with 13:26 remaining. But the Ravens started their comeback from that point, outscoring the Mighty Macs by a 14-3 margin over the next 9:22 to ease back within range of Immaculata. The Ravens trailed 53-48 with 1:42 left, when senior Harrison Carsillo (Collingswood, N.J.) was fouled and Carsillo made both attempts to claw the Ravens to within 53-50. A missed layup by Immaculata on an impressive block by junior Tremell Green (Philadelphia) and a missed jumper by Immaculata gave the Ravens the ball trailing by three with less than one minute left. A clutch three-point shot was converted by junior Justin Chaney (Williamstown, N.J.) to tie the game at 53-53 with 0:37 left in regulation, but another key block came from the Ravens in the person of Tremell Green, and the Ravens grabbed the defensive rebound to take the game into OT.

In the extended period the Ravens won the tap and fed the ball to Chaney who converted a deep trey to put the Ravens up 56-53. The Ravens wouldn't trail in the overtime, but the teams could not get much separation between them in the period. With 0:35 left, sophomore Kiwan Murray (Philadelphia) sank one of two free throws to give the Ravens their largest lead of the overtime, a four-point cushion at 63-59. Immaculata converted a bucket just eight seconds later to move to within 63-61. The next agonizing 24 seconds featured the Mighty Macs going 0-for-3 from the field and 0-for-2 at the line while the Ravens shot 1-for-4 at the line as sophomore Dan Kearney (Glen Mills, Pa.) sank a free throw with 0:03 left to finally ice the game for the Ravens.

Two Ravens finished the game scoring in double-figures. Chaney and Steven Thompson (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) each scored 13. Harrison Carsillo led his team with seven boards.

For Immaculata, Kendall Peters tallied 16 to lead both teams. Rob Siter scored 13 and Jeffone Hill had 11 to lead the Mighty Macs. Siter grabbed nine boards to lead his team in that category.

The Ravens stay at home for their next game, a CSAC contest, against Baptist Bible College. Their game against the Defenders is scheduled for a 3:00pm tip-off on Saturday, December 3.
