BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille College men's basketball team kept its winning streak alive with a (75-58) win over Pitt-Bradford; and in doing so they helped deliver head coach Mike MacDonald his 100th victory as the bench boss of the Maverick program.
The Mavs jumped out to a quick (8-0) lead and seemed poised to runaway from the visiting Panthers but Pitt-Bradford would go on a (13-2) run to take their first lead of the game. From that point the game would be a tight affair throughout the rest of the opening half with Medaille carrying a (37-31) lead into the break.
The Mavs would take control of the game five minutes into the second half as they started to knock down shots while forcing the Panthers into turnovers.
The Mavs were led by point guard Angel Flores who shot efficiently in the game as he went (7 for 11) from the floor, including connecting on (2 of 3) from behind the arc. He also directed the Maverick offense by dishing out a game high five assists as well.
Also having a strong game was Phil Maiarana who netted (16) points, pulled down a game high (7) rebounds while dishing out (4) assists. Teammate David Shuey chipped in with (11) points on (5 of 9) shooting and pulled down five boards.
Head coach Mike MacDonald resurrected a floundering Medaille program when he took the reins in the 2006-07 season after the program had won just four games in the two seasons prior to his arrival on campus. Since that time he has led the Mavs to two AMCC Championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances, as well a pair of ECAC Tournament appearances. During that span he has amassed a (100-47) record for a winning percentage of (.680).
The win pushes their record to (8-0) on the season and keeps them tied atop the AMCC standings with a (3-0) conference mark. The Mavs will host Franciscan on Sunday (12/11) at noon in another home league matchup.
