Late surge lets Tommies pull away from Mac

Junior John Nance scored 15 points and the host Tommies (7-1 overall, 4-0 MIAC) used a game-closing 30-11 run to pull away from the upset-minded Scots (0-7, 0-4), 86-64, in Wednesday night's MIAC men's basketball game at Schoenecker Arena. 

The No. 16-ranked Tommies won their fourth game in eight days and moved into sole possession of the MIAC lead as previously-unbeaten Augsburg lost 82-80 at Gustavus.

St. Thomas, which shot 56% from the floor (30-of-54) had a 35-7 advantage in bench scoring.

St. Thomas had a 36-34 halftime lead and led just 56-53 with 11:20 to go before Peter Leslie's 3-point basketball started a 14-0 run.

Leslie finished with 14 points and five assists, Tommy Hannon added 14 points and five rebounds, and freshman Dylan Stewart contributed a collegiate-high 11 points.

Sam Marshall scored a game-high 19 points and Lamont Diggs added 14 for the Scots, who shot 54% (28-of-52).

St. Thomas is off until a Dec. 22 non-conference game at UW-Stevens Point.
