Tufts survived on a buzzer beater and Montclair State rallied from 16 points down as two presumptive top seeds barely survived to make it into the Sweet 16. Carthage, meanwhile, handed Hope its only loss of the season, 72-67 in a battle of Top 10 teams in the second round.
Senior guard Liz Moynihan hit a desperation 3-pointer as time expired to give Tufts a 57-54 overtime victory over the University of New England to lift the Jumbos into the Sweet 16 for the third season in a row. It was her lone basket of the evening on nine attempts. After a UNE shot-clock violation with 4.6 seconds remaining, the Jumbos had the ball out on the side in their own backcourt. Moynihan received the inbounds pass, took a few dribbles into the frontcourt and got off an off-balance shot from just outside the arc to barely beat the buzzer.
Melissa Tobie gave Montclair State its first lead of the
game with just seven seconds remaining and finished with 30
points as the Redhawks avoided the upset to defeat Cabrini 78-73 in
overtime. The Cavaliers had led by as many as 16 in the second
half, as Amber Keys put in 14 points in the first 25 minutes. She
finished with 21.

Sarah Anderegg scored 15 despite fouling out for the Missionaries, while Tiffani Traver played all 40 minutes and had 17 and Heather Johns did the same en route to 15.
Scranton edged Vassar 72-71 in a thriller that included a 13-point second half rally and a game-winning free throw by Alexix Roman in the final seconds. The Royals' 55th NCAA Tournament win sends them to the Sweet 16 against Montclair State, which beat them earlier this year.
