Break out the religious references. The 2014 Division III women's basketball championship will be a battle between the Whitman Missionaries and FDU-Florham Devils.

FDU-Florham scratched past Tufts 42-39 to improve to 32-0 and will have a chance to become the eighth Division III women's basketball team to cap a perfect season with an NCAA championship. The Devils held Tufts to one point and no field goals in the final seven minutes. Kyra Dayon scored 17 points for FDU-Florham while Shalette Brown grabbed 18 rebounds, her fifth of five NCAA tournament games with double-digit rebounds. Game recap

FDU-Florham becomes the first Freedom Conference team to play for the women's basketball national championship. Moravian made the title game in 1992 and Scranton won the title in 1985, but that was before the Middle Atlantic Conference split into the Freedom and Commonwealth conferences in 2000.

Whitman rode the hot shooting of Heather Johns and Sarah Anderegg past UW-Whitewater, 85-70. Johns got off to a slow start, scoring two points in the opening 10 minutes. But she caught fire before the half ended, scoring 10 points in a seven-minute stretch to put Whitman up 41-30 at the break. Johns finished with a career-high 33 points and Anderegg added 21. Amy Mandrell led UW-Whitewater with 30 points and Mary Merg finished her NCAA tournament career with a 21-point effort. Game recap

Whitman is the second NWC program to play for a Division III women's basketball title. George Fox won the national championship in 2009 and finished second in 2011.

FDU-Florham and Whitman will play for the title at 7 pm CST while Tufts and UW-Whitewater meet for the third place game at 4 pm.
