Top-ranked UW-Platteville got 25 points from its All-American en route to a win in its No. 1 debut, while Trine honored its No. 1, Fred Garland, the Pointers women pulled off a road win and No. 3 Scranton rolled in Wednesday night Division III men's and women's basketball action.

Logan Pearson scored a game-high 25 points to lead five scorers in double figures and added five assists as No. 1 UW-Platteville won its first game since ascending to the top spot in the D3hoops.com men's basketball Top 25, winning at No. 14 UW-La Crosse 83-75.

The Pioneers (11-1, 2-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took a 37-35 lead on a Max Love three-pointer at the end of the first half and never trailed the rest of the way, holding off the homestanding Eagles, who fell to 10-2, 1-1 in the WIAC. JJ Paider led the Eagles with 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting.

A Trine University home record of 3,029 fans turned out at the school's on-campus MTI Center on Wednesday night as the school and men's basketball program honored Fred Garland. It was the school's first home conference game since the All-American died in a car accident in mid-December. Trine remembered Garland by retiring his number and hanging a banner on the wall in his memory. On the floor, Drew Moore honored his memory as well by scoring 22 points and Emmanuel Menanglo had 10 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots in the Thunder's 76-63 win against Kalamazoo.

Hampden-Sydney scored the first eight points of the second half to tie the game at 37, but the No. 8 Tigers could not maintain the momentum as Guilford went on to win at home, 77-68. The Quakers held the Tigers (10-3, 4-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) to 13-for-33 shooting in the second half after Hampden-Sydney had shot 50% from the floor in the first half. Meanwhile, Luke Proctor shot 7-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-6 from three-point range for the Quakers (10-3, 4-1 ODAC), and Gabe Proctor added 17 points and a game-high eight assists.

John Jay and Sarah Lawrence each won thanks to equally amazing, yet completely different buzzer beaters. For John Jay, Jamir Stewart flung a tip-in of an intentionally missed free throw while falling off balance away from the basket and got it to go in at the buzzer to tie the game up with 89 at the end of regulation at York (N.Y.). The Bloodhounds went on to win 99-93 in overtime behind Stewart's 20 and Keyshawn Miller's 21 points. For Sarah Lawrence, it was a straight-up, super long shot as Eamon Kelly drained a 38-footer at the buzzer to lift the Gryphons past Yeshiva, 66-65 on the road. Kelly finished with 13 points and was just 2-for-7 from beyond the arc. Sarah Lawrence (7-5, 3-0 Skyline) had led by as many as 15 in the second half before Yeshiva (5-7, 2-1) rallied, tying the game with two Zevi Samet free throws with 57 seconds left and taking the lead on two more with six ticks remaining.

Gwynedd Mercy remained unbeaten, but needed overtime to do it as the Griffins won 87-78 at Marywood. Guard Shawn Summers Jr. led four Griffins in double figures with 20 points; senior guard Mike Marable was one of the others as he paired his team-high 12 rebounds with 16 points. Marywood fell to 8-7, 0-2 Atlantic East.

A 12-0 first-half and 10-0 second-half run at Kenyon enabled 10th-ranked Wooster to take control of Wednesday's 84-71 win. Wooster (13-1, 5-0 North Coast Athletic Conference), ranked within D3hoops.com's top-10 for the third-straight poll, saw its 39-31 halftime lead climb to 49-31 before Kenyon's (2-11, 0-4 NCAC) Miles Versa scored the Owls' first points of the second half. Wooster is 5-0 in NCAC play for the first time since 2013-14.

Senior guard Henry Hinkle rang up 17 first-half points to help Ohio Wesleyan take the lead, and the Bishops went on to an 88-68 North Coast Athletic Conference win vs. Hiram. Phil Wallace scored on the first possession of the game, but the Terriers reeled off the next 7 points, with Collin Jones contributing twp lay-ins and a free throw during that run. Hiram was still up, 12-7, when Ohio Wesleyan took off on a 30-10 run, with Hinkle and post Tony Carter connecting on 3-pointers to put the Bishops ahead to stay.

Wednesday women's highlights

On the women’s side, UW-Stevens Point held No. 7 UW-Whitewater four points in the third quarter and sent the Warhawks home with a 67-58 loss. The Pointers led for nearly the entire game and broke it open in the third period when the Warhawks managed just one field goal. After falling behind by 20 points midway through the fourth, UW-Whitewater rallied within eight with less than two minutes remaining. But Alexa Thompson hit a three to quash the Warhawks’ momentum and Gabby Gawlitta scored four straight points to seal the win.

Thompson led UW-Stevens Point (12-1, 2-0 WIAC) with 22 points and seven rebounds. Kacie Carollo scored 26 points on 10-for-18 shooting for UW-Whitewater (11-2, 1-1), which hosts UW-Stout and No. 4 UW-Oshkosh in its next two games. The Titans shot 50 percent from the field in a 67-53 win at UW-Eau Claire.

All-American Kaci Kranson, who was honored before the game for recently scoring her 1,000th career point, scored 24 more for Scranton (12-0, 5-0 Landmark).

After falling out of the Top 25, Mass-Dartmouth flexed its muscles in a 72-49 rout of defending conference champions Rhode Island College. Jane McCauley led four Corsairs in double-figure scoring with 17 points, as Mass-Dartmouth (9-2, 3-0 Little East) beat the Anchorwomen for the first time in 12 tries.

Luther ended Coe’s 12-game winning streak with a 70-58 win over the Kohawks in Cedar Rapids. The Norse got 27 points from Haylie Strum and 18 rebounds from Kaylie Jones, as Luther improved to 11-3, -41 in the ARC.

Despite being picked second in the conference’s preseason poll, the road to that MAC Freedom title still appears to run through DeSales. The Bulldogs went on the road and rallied past Arcadia, 68-61. DeSales outscored the Knights 25-15 in the final quarter, including a 9-0 advantage from three in that period. The Bulldogs also had a 25-11 bench scoring advantage.

Grinnell post players Bailey Strovers and Sara Booher combined for 24 points and 23 rebounds, and the Pioneers knocked off MWC champions Ripon, 70-58. Adriana Perez added 13 points off the bench for Grinnell (9-5, 3-2 MWC).
