Rochester went on the road and upset No. 2 Washington U. 72-68 in a game between two teams previously streaking in opposite directions.
Rochester brought its first five-game losing streak in over 10 seasons to St. Louis where the Bears had a 13-game winning streak. Rochester held a 13-point lead at the half and a 12-point lead midway through the second half, but the Bears pulled even with 2:42 to play. Kelsey Hurley hit a 3-pointer to put Rochester back in front and Danielle McNabb followed with two free throws to give the Yellowjackets some breathing room.
No. 24 New York University took advantage of the Bears' slip, thanks to Maya Wasowicz's 3-pointer with 13 seconds left. Her shot propelled the Violets to a 85-81 win over Carnegie Mellon and New York U. moved within a game of Washington U.
No. 20 Emory missed its chance to do the same. Chicago shot 58 percent from the field and defeated the Eagles, 85-76. The Eagles are 4-4 in conference after going undefeated out of it.
Three highly ranked, undefeated teams stayed that way with little trouble. No. 1 DePauw, No. 3 Whitman and No. 5 Tufts won by a combined 102 points over Allegheny, Pacific Lutheran and Hamilton respectively. The top-ranked Tigers clinched a share of the NCAC title and can win it outright against Hiram tomorrow.

Plattsburgh State overcame a strong performance by Brockport State's John Ivy and picked off the Golden Eagles, 92-89. Ivy scored 40 points, including 17 of 18 from the free throw line, and grabbed nine rebounds, but Shavar Fields and John Perez combined for 44 points and 24 boards. It gave the Cardinals a split of the season series.
Washington U. coach Mark Edwards picked up his 600th career win as his Bears took care of Rochester, 77-61. Edwards is the 12th Division III coach to hit that milestone and the 81st at any level of men's college basketball. Chris Klimek scored 23 points, including the 1,000th of his career, on 10 for 12 shooting from the field.
Emory rallied from a nine-point deficit to beat Chicago 82-74, and Mark Zimmerman set the school's all-time record for men's basketball coaching victories (104).
Jared Suderley scored 19 points to become Hartwick's all-time leading scorer, but it wasn't enough to avoid an upset loss at Elmira, 81-75. Chris Cassidy had 29 points and seven rebounds for the Soaring Eagles. The Hawks got a little help from Alfred, which beat Stevens 100-88, keeping Hartwick and Stevens tied for first in the Empire 8.
Centre put some space between itself and Oglethorpe by downing the second-place Stormy Petrels, 77-67. Collin Lopez scored 27 points for the Colonels. And their former confererence-mate, DePauw, saw its slide continue. The Tigers, who worked their way into the bottom of the Top 25 after a home win vs. Wooster on Jan. 25, have lost back-to-back games, including Friday night's loss to Allegheny, which had not yet won a conference game.
