Playing at home, No. 9 Wittenberg and No. 12 Augustana defeated nationally ranked opponents on Wednesday night.

Hunter Hill keyed a 22-1 run as No. 12 Augustana topped No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan, 83-71. The Titans led 19-12 midway through the first half when the Vikings' sophomore guard errupted for 18 points on six three-pointers. Hill hit four shots from behind the arc and converted two more three-point plays in the run. He finished with 28 points in 28 minutes.
Andrew Zeimnik and Victor Davis combined for 35 points and 11 rebounds for Illinois Wesleyan (11-2, 1-1), which shot 50 percent from the field, as did the Vikings. Augustana (12-1, 2-0) heads to Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday.
No. 9 Wittenberg rallied in the second half against No. 22 Ohio Wesleyan to force overtime and then rallied again in the extra session to beat the Battling Bishops, 62-60. Taylor Rieger converted a three-point play to give Ohio Wesleyan a 52-42 lead with 7:14 left, but Wittenberg held the Battling Bishops scoreless for the rest of the second half and tied the game at 52. Ohio Wesleyan responded by scoring six points in the first 47 seconds of overtime before going cold again. The Tigers held the Battling Bishops scoreless for the final 4:13 of overtime and rallied for the victory.
Scott Masin had 24 points, including two free throws in the final minute of regulation to tie the game, for Wittenberg (11-1, 5-0). Seth Clark had 14 points for Ohio Wesleyan (9-3, 3-2).
No. 11 St. Thomas nipped St. Olaf 62-61 at home to improve to 5-0 in conference. Sterling Nielsen hit two free throws to give the Oles a 61-60 lead with 19 seconds left, but Zach Riedeman answered with a 14-foot fade away jumper that held up as the game-winner.
No. 20 Messiah withstood a late rally by Lycoming and beat the Warriors, 79-76. The Falcons, who improved to 11-0, 5-0 in conference, hit 10 of 16 three-pointers.
UW-Stout had a 60-59 lead in the closing minute against No. 1 UW-Stevens Point and a chance to extend the advantage at home. After Trevor Hass missed a jumper for the Pointers, Hank Kujak grabbed the rebound for the Blue Devils and was fouled with 37 seconds left and his team up one. But he missed the front end of the one-and-one and Hass grabbed the rebound. On the Pointers' next possession, Tyler Tillema hit a tough spinning jumper from beyond the foul line to give UW-Stevens Point the win, 62-61. Full recap
Not all ranked teams avoided road upsets. Bridgewater (Va.) took down No. 15 Virginia Wesleyan 78-65 behind Tavis Stapleton's double-double (19 points, 13 rebounds). Ohio Northern knocked off No. 19 Marietta 78-73 as the Polar Bears used 50 percent shooting to overcome 27 made Marietta free throws.
And not all Top 25 matchups resulted in home victories. No. 16 Wesley stiffled homestanding Christopher Newport, 64-46. The Wolverines held the 14th ranked Captains to 28 percent shooting. Wesley hosts No. 17 Mary Washington on Saturday. The Eagles defeated Salisbury 75-70 on Wednesday night.
Six of the NEWMAC's top teams played each other Wednesday night, but none of the games were close. No. 6 WPI built a 21-point hafltime lead at Springfield and cruised to victory, 81-61. No. 25 Babson drilled Emerson 72-44 in the Lions' conference debut. Emerson moved into the NEWMAC from the GNAC this season. MIT also breezed past Clark 63-36.
Wilmington took care of Capital 67-51, giving K.C. Hunt his 100th career victory. William Paterson defeated Kean 75-71 in overtime, despite 28 points for the Cougars' Xavier Fuller. The Pioneers have won five straight.
Randolph edged Eastern Mennonite 63-62 in a game with six free throws in the final 3.1 seconds. Phil Wenger finished a 21-point night by scoring a layup with two seconds left in Elizabethtown's 86-84 win over Lebanon Valley.
