Taylor Simpson had a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds as Chicago knocked off No. 5 Washington U. 73-71 in women's basketball Saturday. It was the UAA opener for both teams.

The Maroons led by 10 after a basket by Morgan Herrick with 3:22 to go. But Chicago would not hit another field goal the rest of the game, holding on by making seven of nine free throws down the stretch.

Stacy Arlis scored a game-high 20 points as No. 11 Illinois Wesleyan went to No. 16 Carthage and took a 20-point lead in the second half before settling for a 70-60 win.

The game was delayed a day by the death of a member of the student body leadership at Oglethorpe, but No. 12 DePauw went to Atlanta and came away with its 18th consecutive SCAC win, beating Oglethorpe 71-48. Freshman Ali Ross hit six three-pointers on her way to a career-high 22 points.

No. 19 Louisiana College and No. 23 Mississippi College finished their weekend in Abilene, Texas with a 1-3 record as they lost to McMurry 65-60 and Hardin-Simmons 58-57, respectively. Jasmine Lewis scored a game-high 24 points for the Cowgirls as they dropped the Choctaws to 11-2. All 14 players scored for Christopher Newport and Greensboro ended the half on a 34-8 run as each rolled over typically outmatched USA South opponents, Mary Baldwin and Averett. Tiffany Davis made her CNU debut with 13 points after transferring from Division I Delaware State.

Rachel Hermus tied a career high with 26 points to lead No. 25 St. Norbert to its eighth consecutive win, 69-57 against Carroll. Hermus returned from injury for the Green Knights to start the D3hoops.com Classic and has averaged 17.8 points since.

Outside the Top 25, UW-Superior took an 18-0 lead at home against UW-Oshkosh only to see the the Titans rally with a 41-19 run and eventually win 73-64. Photo gallery from d3photography.com.

Concordia-Moorhead nearly came all the way back from 22 points down in the second half, cutting St. Ben's lead to one at 58-57 before the Blazers pulled away from the 77-70 win.  The Blazers had led 44-22 early in the second half before the Cobbers' rally. It was Concordia's second loss of the season, its first in MIAC play. Bridgewater State picked up just its second loss of the season, falling at home to Westfield State 65-61 in overtime in the teams' MASCAC opener. Virginia Wesleyan sprinted out to a 46-12 lead and went on to beat Emory and Henry 76-34.
