The Hamline men's basketball team pulled momentum from impressive shooting outside the arc to put the first blemish in 2010-11 record of No. 4 St. Thomas, upsetting their conference rival, 92-79, in Hutton Arena.

St. Thomas had won 13 straight to open the season and were stopped on the unlucky number by the Pipers in their first victory over the Tommies in over four years. Hamline last beat the Tommies in a 78-64 win at home on December 4, 2006. Full story.

Although they trailed by three at the half, 47-44, Hamline shot 7-for-13 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes. They went on to add five more treys in the final 20 minutes, part of shooting over 68% from the field in a second-half surge.

Carl Hipp led the Pipers with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocked shots.

The only other ranked men's team in action on Monday also lost, as No. 13 St. Mary's (Md.) lost to Wesley 95-80. Paul Reynolds scored a game-high 25 points as the Wolverines moved into a tie for first in the CAC.

Connecticut College shot 16-for-30 from three-point range and put five scorers in double figures as the Camels beat cross-street rival Coast Guard in overtime 79-73.

In women's action, No. 18 Mount Union rolled past Grove City 41-12 in the second half to beat the Wolverines 65-43. Katie Crider's three-pointer with 12 minutes to play gave the Mount Union a 43-41 lead and Purple Raiders never looked back as they finished the game on a 22-2 run. No. 24 St. Benedict did the same thing in the first half, jumping out to a 40-16 lead and holding on to beat St. Mary's (Minn.) 73-61.
