The Pointers used a 13-0 run to close out the first half and extended it to 20-0 to open the second half, defeating the Johnnies of St. John’s 78-51 in their home opener. Jerrel Harris led a balanced UW-Stevens Point attack with 14 points as four players finished in double figures. Also putting up double digit points for the Pointers was Dan Tillema (12), Tyler Tillema (11), and Scott Hoelzel (11).
A couple of hours away, No. 18 John Carroll improved to 3-0, rallying from a 13-point halftime deficit to win on the road at No. 5 Carthage, 70-69. The Red Men were still leading by 11 with 13:06 left before the Blue Streaks went on a 15-4 run to tie and led by three with 10 seconds left but had to hold on against a Steve Djurickovic three-point attempt that misfired at the buzzer.
Frostburg State upset No. 11 St. Mary's (Md.) to win the Pride of Maryland tournament, as Jamal Bracken scored a game-high 17 and Alex Franz was pressured into nine turnovers in the Seahawks' 56-54 loss. St. Mary's had won the event each of the previous two seasons. Emory dropped No. 19 Guilford to 2-2 as the Eagles beat the Quakers 69-61.

Naimah Clemons scored 24 points on 10-for-15 shooting and added eight assists as No. 8 Kean rolled past Juniata 102-62. No. 21 St. Norbert rallied past local rival UW-Oshkosh 50-42 after trailing by seven midway through the second half.
Coco Cartwright burst into the starting lineup for Hardin-Simmons in a big way, scoring 31 to lift the Cowgirls to a 74-72 overtime win against St. Mary's (Minn.).
