It�s only February but the 2009-2010 Division III men�s basketball season has come full circle. Washington U., who started the season ranked No. 1, has that distinction again in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25.
Washington U. hopped over Williams and assumed the top spot, though only by a very narrow margin. Washington U. has 13 first place votes while Williams, which was ranked No. 2 last week, has the other 12. The Bears are on the verge of clinching the UAA and its automatic bid after winning at Brandeis and NYU this weekend. The two time defending national champions would punch their ticket to the tournament with a win against Case Western on Friday. Guilford dropped to No. 4 after getting spanked by Eastern Mennonite last Wednesday. The Royals moved up to No. 12. Much farther down the poll, John Carroll has returned to the Top 25. The Blue Streaks started the season ranked No. 2 behind Washington U.
&&f-boxr&&In Monday's action, Eastern Mennonite rolled over another ranked conference opponent, this time beating No. 10 Virginia Wesleyan 88-68. Eli Crawford, who averages 11 points per game, scored 19 to lead the Royals. Marlins� star Stephen Fields scored 15 points but shot just 3-for-18 from the field. Eastern Mennonite has outscored its last three opponents � two which are ranked � by a combined 97 points. On the women's side, the status quo remains for the poll and the final scores. Amherst still sits atop the Top 25 and highly ranked teams keep rolling over their conference foes.
