From New England to Texas, Thursday night was not a good one to be ranked in either Top 25 poll.
In women's action, Washington and Jefferson hit four late free throws to beat Thomas More 61-57. The Presidents held the Saints without a field goal for an 11 minute stretch, though they only shot 32 percent from the floor themselves during the game (21 for 66). Maggie Gibson had a big night for Washington and Jefferson, scoring 16 points (including her 1,000th) and grabbing 22 rebounds. Mary Hardin-Baylor ended Louisiana College�s five-game win streak, 53-44. Louisiana College is 8-2 but just 1-2 on the road in the American Southwest Conference.
&&g-boxl&&St. Jospeh�s (Maine) picked up its upset victory on the road at defending GNAC champion Emmanuel 60-47. The Monks held a 19-point lead at the half and road the hot hand of Megan McDevitt who hit five-three pointers and scored 19 points. The schedule doesn�t get any easier for the Saints, who have lost two straight entering Saturday�s game at No. 5 Bowdoin. The Polar Bears tuned up for that game by besting Bates in a defensive struggle, 52-49. Bowdoin improves to 10-0. More women�s scores.
The men's ranked teams didn't fare much better. Colby-Sawyer (7-5) went to No. 7 Middlebury and beat the Panthers 86-76. Jon Chaloux scored 25 points for the Chargers who held the Panthers to 19 percent shooting from behind the arc (5-for-27). Concordia-Texas built an 11-point halftime lead and went on to beat No. 10 Mississippi College 81-72. The Tornados (5-6) were led by Brad Walker, who had 22 points and six rebounds. No. 22 Texas-Dallas had more success at Texas Lutheran where the Comets won 80-53. Grove City defeated Bethany 65-54 and ended the Bisons' seven-game win streak. More men's scores.
