IWU gets past top- ranked Bears

Christina Solari had 16 points and 13 rebounds while Kylie Castans had 11 points and junior Hope added 10 as homestanding No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan knocked off No. 1 Washington University 58-53 on Saturday.

Carthage rebounded from its Friday night loss to UW-Whitewater by knocking off No. 17 UW-Platteville 78-65 behind 24 points from Steve Djurickovic. Top-ranked and two-time defending champion Washington U. had little trouble with Ohio Wesleyan in an 85-68 win. Tenth-ranked UW-Stevens Point made it a clean sweep in the Pacific Northwest, rolling past No. 18 Puget Sound 70-55 behind 16 from Jerrel Harris and 12 from Louis Hurd. Transylvania knocked off No. 21 Centre 68-60, while 11th-ranked Bridgewater State lost its second game of the season, 78-71 to St. Joseph's (L.I.).

In other women's action, No. 21 Marymount and Gwynedd-Mercy will play for the title of Marymount's eight-game tournament. The Saints opened the game on a 12-4 run and went on to beat King's 64-51 while Gwynedd-Mercy had four players in double figures in an 89-78 win against Ferrum.
