The summer is almost over and pick-up games are heating up in Division III gyms across the USA as students return to campus for the 2008-09 school year. Over the summer we detailed many teams' trips to play games and tour overseas but one team that just returned home this week came back with an interesting story to tell.
Ursinus ended up learning a lot and playing a lot in Brazil, but got a last-minute surprise when an NBA star came in to face them.
As Keith Page put it, "We showed up in Sau Paulo ready to play some unknown Brazilian hotshots and out of nowhere Leandro Barbosa walks in, gets a jersey, then walks out the locker room and into the lay-up line!"
&&g-boxr&&Not only did Barbosa average 15.6 points per game for the Phoenix Suns this past season, but he's Remy Cousart's favorite player.
It was also a good trip for the Bears, who reached the Final Four this past season, to get accustomed to life post-Nick Shattuck. In this case, John Noonan scored 40 points against Barbosa's team in a game Ursinus lost by two.
More on the entire trip from Page's Ursinus blog.
