Maryville (Mo.) broke the Division III record for longest conference winning streak, extending its SLIAC run to 73 consecutive games by winning 86-65 at Fontbonne on Wednesday night.
The Saints (18-3, 13-0) last lost a conference game to Fontbonne on Feb. 12, 2003, 104-78 victory on the Saints' home court. Maryville has had only seven SLIAC contests decided by less than 10 points during the streak. Their closest margin of victory was one point, with a 68-67 defeat of Webster on Jan. 29, 2005. The Saints have recorded 47 20-plus point victories in the SLIAC in five seasons and have outscored their conference opponents by an average of 27.25 points.
The previous record was held by Emmanuel, which won 71 consecutive GNAC games from 2000-06. The second- and third-longest active conference winning streaks each ended within the past week, as Gwynedd-Mercy lost a PnAC game and Baruch lost in the CUNYAC.
