Wildcats scratch Loggers

Linfield senior Steve Taylor hit a key three-pointer and the Wildcats erased a 14-point halftime deficit to upset No. 13 Puget Sound 93-82 Friday night.

The win was the first for Linfield (12-8, 7-4) over UPS (6-4, 9-3) in nine games, dating to the 2002-03 season. The Loggers shot 7-for- from three-point range in the first half, but just 1-for-8 in the second.

The St. John Fisher women shot an NCAA-record 81 percent from the floor in the first half, going 17-for-21 in trailing 48-42 at Ithaca. Chicago ended Rochester's 15-game winning streak as Alex Leach scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second half of a 56-46 win against the No. 7 Yellowjackets. NYU lost for the fifth consecutive game, falling at home to Case Western Reserve 73-63. The Spartans (11-8, 4-4) got 19 points from Ashleigh Tondo and outrebounded the Violets (13-6, 2-6) 36-25.

No. 3 Rochester avenged its Sunday afternoon loss as well, as Uche Ndubizu hit a layup with four seconds left to lift the Yellowjackets past Chicago 64-63 on the road. Fletcher Walters scored 23 points and added nine rebounds and No. 1 Amherst started the second half on a 16-3 run in pulling away from Connecticut College, 80-60. Joe Coppens scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half as No. 10 Brandeis rallied from a 13-point second half deficit to beat Emory, 90-85. Mike Daley won his 300th career game as Nazareth improved to 15-5 by beating Hartwick 73-61. He has a 300-267 record in 22 seasons.

Virginia Wesleyan handed No. 24 Randolph-Macon its second loss in three games behind a double-double from Heather Phillips in a 63-45 win. The Marlins swept the season series. William Smith improved to 17-1 and Brockport State to 18-3 in women's action by rolling outmatched Vassar and Morrisville State, respectively. Brandeis led Emory 42-22 in the first half but the Eagles came back to win 75-63. Emory had 23 assists on its 27 baskets, on the road, and was led by 14 points from Lora Turner and 13 from Kate Corkle and LeShonda Lillard.
