Weekend leaves top spot up for grabs

To be technical, it started when Chicago won on No. 2 Brandeis' home floor on Friday night. Moments later, No. 1 Rochester survived an upset attempt in regulation at Emory and went into overtime with the Eagles on the road. And shortly thereafter, No. 14 Centre hit a last-second shot to finish a comeback and take visiting No. 18 Millsaps to overtime.

So when Emory completed the upset of the top-ranked Yellowjackets, we knew we had a busy Monday coming. Monday is when the D3hoops.com Top 25 voters cast their ballots. And it's been a while since we've had a battle for the top spot in January as wide open as this one is. There is no dominant team in Division III men's basketball this season, we came to realize a few weeks back, and fans should be in for an exciting March.

But for now, someone has to be voted No. 1. We'll find out what the voters think this evening. Hopefully early this evening. Here's an alphabetical look at five possible candidates, with breakdown info compiled by one of our voters:
