No. 1 Rochester remained undefeated, holding off No. 2 Brandeis at home on Sunday afternoon 74-68 in front of a packed house at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
It was just the second No. 1/No. 2 meeting in the history of the D3hoops.com Top 25. (The other was when Wittenberg hosted Wooster in February 2006.) The teams meet again at Brandeis on Feb. 15.
Mike Chmielowiec scored a team-high 14, while Rob Dominiak added 12 and Jeff Juron had 10 points and nine assists off the bench for Rochester (14-0, 3-0 UAA). Kevin Olson had 16 points for Brandeis, but Terrell Hollins was held without a field goal until the closing seconds after playing just 16 minutes because of foul trouble. Both of Brandeis' losses are to unbeaten teams, Rochester and Mass-Dartmouth.
Sunday's men's scores. Carnegie Mellon fell to 0-3 in the UAA, losing at home to NYU, while No. 5 Wash U remained unbeaten in the league behind 25 points from Troy Ruths and 17 points off the bench by Danny O'Boyle.
In Sunday's women's action, Birmingham-Southern, with scholarship players left over from its Division I team of last season, won at Trinity (Texas), while DePauw survived at Austin.
