Most exhausted man in sports

That's the phrase that's been used to describe New Jersey City swingman Dana John, whose typical day includes basketball, a full-time job with the U.S. Postal Service, working the graveyard shift, while maintaining a full-time academic course load and family commitments that include caring for his 4-year-old son and handicapped nephew.

John, who averages 21.8 points per game for the Gothic Knights, talked about his life in an interview on Sunday's Hoopsville with Dave McHugh.

“It was pretty amazing to witness Dana go through his non-stop routine,” writer Sam Apple said recently after spending 24 hours with John to report his story in ESPN The Magazine. “By game time, I was tired, and I had slept the night before. Dana, meanwhile, went out and scored 25 points.

"I still don't know how he manages to perform at such a high level on so little sleep, but after spending the day with him, I did learn that he gets his tremendous work ethic from his family and that he never puts basketball before the more important things in life. He's an inspiring guy, and I was glad I had the chance to see him in action.”

John was featured on ESPN's news magazine, E:60, on Tuesday evening.
