Loras coach takes D-I job

Loras women's basketball coach Shauna Green will step down from her position effective Sept. 14 in order to take an assistant coaching position with Division I Providence. Green has been the Duhawks head coach for the past two seasons and was an assistant with the program for three seasons prior to taking over.

Last season the Duhawks climbed the IIAC standings for the second consecutive year under Green. In her first season, Green's team finished in fourth place, hosted an IIAC tournament game, and played in the semifinals. She followed her rookie campaign with a second place finish in 2006-07, going 17-10 overall, finishing second in the IIAC (12-4) and made a run all the way to the IIAC title game, eventually falling on the road. She leaves the Fieldhouse with a career record at Loras of 29-25 and also coached All-Region selection Natalie Pucci.

“I have truly enjoyed my time here at Loras and want to thank them for the opportunities that they have given me,” Green said. “This was one of the hardest decisions that I've ever had to make and it is because of the people here and my team. I am truly going to miss coaching them and I know that they will have a lot of success this year and in the future.”

Green, a native of Clinton, Iowa, played at Canisius, where she was a four-year All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection and three-time team MVP, scoring over 2,000 points and pulling down over 900 rebounds. Providence won just one game during the 2004-05 season before current head coach Phil Seymore took over in April 2005. The team won eight games in his first campaign and 13 games last season, Seymore's second. Seymore is also a graduate of Canisius, earning his degree in 1989.

To be able to coach at the Division I level and in the Big East Conference is an opportunity that I just couldn't pass up,” Green said. “It had to be a perfect situation for me to leave Loras College and I really feel that this is it.”
