Eureka coach steps down after 12-game turnaround

Eureka head men's basketball coach Jay Bruer announced he has resigned to pursue opportunities in ministry.

In three seasons at Eureka, Bruer posted an overall record of 26-52, including a 16-10 mark in the past season. The team's record was a 12-game improvement from the 2005-06 season, marking the largest single season turnaround in school history since 1923-24. The Red Devils reached the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game, falling in overtime for a bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.

Bruer will continue teaching at EC until the end of the school year. The search for a replacement is underway.
