Hope women's coach steps down

Hope Semper has resigned her position as head women's coach at Elmhurst to pursue other opportunities.

"Elmhurst College is extremely thankful for all of Hope Semper's hard work and dedication in building the Bluejay women's basketball team into a competitive team in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin," said athletic director Paul Krohn. "We wish her all the best in her future endeavors."

Semper served as the Bluejays' head coach for the past six seasons. Semper took over the program when Elmhurst was coming off a disappointing 2-22 season in 2000-01. In just four years, she guided Elmhurst to its first-ever CCIW Tournament appearance. She became the first coach in Elmhurst history to guide the team to back-to-back 15-win seasons. The Bluejays posted a 15-11 mark in 2004-05 and finished 17-8 in 2005-06, the third highest win total in school history. Semper compiled a career record of 54-97 at Elmhurst, including a 38-38 mark for the past three seasons. She also coached the Elmhurst College women's tennis team for six seasons.

A national search for a new women's basketball coach will begin immediately.

In 2007-08, the Elmhurst women's basketball team is expected to return 10 letter winners from last season's squad, including four starters.
