The fans in a packed Coles Center went home happy after NYU completed a sweep of Washington U. on Friday night.
The No. 18 women jumped out to a 19-4 lead and held No. 11 Washington U. at arm's length the rest of the way, rolling to an 83-58 win. The men trailed early but rallied to lead by double digits at the half, then weathered a Bear run midway through the second half to win 73-57.
It was the first UAA loss for the No. 7 Wash U men. NYU improved to 4-4 in the league.
Elsewhere in women's action, No. 19 Brandeis held No. 13 Chicago without a field goal over the final 4:57 and sent the Maroons to their third consecutive loss, 52-50.
No. 21 Lake Forest (remember them? They won at Wash U in November.) defeated Beloit. Jessica Laing shot 7-for-9 from the floor and finished with 22 points as Cortland State beat Potsdam State to improve to 17-1. Friday's women's scores.
On the men's side, No. 19 Chicago got 16 points from Brandon Woodhead and held off Brandeis down the stretch in a 74-69 win. Williams knocked off No. 23 Bates in Chandler Gym, 67-54, while No. 1 Amherst rolled over Connecticut College 91-49. Friday's men's scores.
Ithaca dealt Utica its first Empire 8 loss, dropping the Pioneers at their place 70-68 in overtime, while St. Lawrence, Union and Hamilton all kept pace at the top of the Liberty League.
