Division III's most storied rivalry added another chapter as Calvin upset No. 6 Hope 77-71, becoming the first visiting men's team to win at the DeVos Field House. The loss also ends Hope's 16-game win streak and its undefeated march through the MIAA regular season.
Calvin jumped out to a 41-25 lead with 3:56 left in the first half. Hope rallied to take a 67-65 lead with under three minutes left before the Knights went ahead for good. Derek Griffin led Calvin with 21 points, including 7-for-7 shooting from the free throw line. The Calvin/Hope rivalry is now tied at 82 games apiece.
Elsewhere two Top 25 teams avenged loses to conference opponents from earlier this season. No. 7 Wittenberg followed up Saturday's win over rival No. 5 Wooster with a 71-64 win over Ohio Wesleyan, paced by Dane Borchers' 19 points. No. 21 Aurora squashed Edgewood 90-62.
No. 3 St. Thomas dropped back into a first-place tie in the MIAC with St. John's by losing at Gustavus Adolphus 80-74 in overtime. The Johnnies defeated Augsburg 67-54 to join the Tommies at 16-2 atop the MIAC.
No. 10 Augustana hung on to beat No. 25 Wheaton (Ill.) 63-60 at home while No. 12 Elmhurst handled No. 15 Carthage 81-59. With the wins, the Vikings and Thunder were able to create a little more breathing room for the top spots in the CCIW. McDaniel earned its first win against a ranked team, winning 70-68 at No. 17 Johns Hopkins, while No. 14 Occidental fell 68-51 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
On the women's side Maine-Farmington swept the season series with conference rival No. 22 Maine Maritime, this time beating the Mariners on the road 53-46. Medaille made sure Penn State-Behrend didn't sweep their regular season series as the Mavs avenged their only AMCC loss to date 72-68.
No. 15 Wilmington (60-50 winners over Ohio Northern) and No. 24 Capital (72-39 winners over Mount Union) stay tied for first but picked up a full game in the OAC standings on No. 20 Baldwin Wallace who was upset by Otterbein 93-91.
Washington & Jefferson and Thomas More nearly played a sudden death extra period in the Presidents' 49-48 overtime victory over the Saints. Jen Rogers scored the only field goal of OT after the teams finished regulation tied at 47.
