BEREA, Ohio – Capital's women handed No. 9 Baldwin-Wallace its first loss of the season with a 63-61 Ohio Athletic Conference win in Berea on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Capital, which is trying to get back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000, extended its season-long winning streak to five games, vaults itself into a first place tie in the OAC and matched its win total from a season ago moving to 9-4 overall, 5-1 OAC. Baldwin-Wallace sees a 24-game regular season win streak come to an end and falls to 12-1, 5-1 on the season.
The score was tied 57-57 with 2:32 remaining when freshman Markee Armantrout hit back-to-back buckets to give Capital a 61-57 edge with 30 seconds left. Junior Kati Todd, who led Capital with 16 points, then nailed a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to seal the upset.
Each team held a four-point lead in the first half before knotting the score at 35-35 at the half.
Sophomore Jennifer Lilly scored 12 points and Armantrout came off the bench to hit 11 points to round out the double-digit scorers for Capital. Baldwin-Wallace's Erika Schultz had a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
