Wentworth Tech player reaches 1,000 rebounds

Senior forward Cheyenne Noble grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds and in the process became the third Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball player to reach the 1,000-rebound plateau as the Leopards closed out play in the 2006 HoopNSurf Classic with a 66-47 loss to Newport News late Monday night in Honolulu.

Trailing by seven at the break, the Leopards opened the second half outscoring the Builders 6-2 over the first 6:12 to cut the lead to three (38-35) with 13:53 left in the contest, and, after sophomore guard Rahshann Lewter converted a three-point play, Newport News went up by six, 41-35.

Sophomore forward Chelsea Proulx hit a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 41-37 with 12:19 left, but those would be the last points Wentworth would score for the next 6:34 as the Builders went on a 13-0 run to take a 54-37 lead and break the game open.

Emily Cring led all scorers, scoring 17 points to go along with six rebounds, while Mindy Thomas chipped in with 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting. For Newport News, Tia Walker had 15 points and three steals.

With her 19 rebounds, Noble now has 1,011 for her career, which places her third all-time, behind current assistant coach Brandy Trice '01, who finished with 1,037, and Rebecca Morris '97 (1,028).
